Diamond Stone Set To Visit Michigan

Oct 16, 2012 11:48 PM

Diamond Stone, a 6-foot-10 center who is rated as a top-5 player in the 2015 class, will make an unofficial visit to Michigan this weekend, according to AAU coach DeShawn Curtis.

"His father (Robert Stone) is from Flint," Curtis said. "So, obviously there's some ties there. Honestly, he's kind of wide open as far as what he's looking at. He likes what they're trying to do there at Michigan, trying to build the program back up.

"Obviously they had a great season last year, and he likes what they're doing there right now and wants to check it out."

Stone averaged 13.5 points and 7.8 rebounds as a freshman at Dominican High School in Wisconsin.

Keith Appling Ready To Show Improved Three-Point Shooting

Oct 11, 2012 11:31 PM

Keith Appling made 500 three-pointers every day during the offseason.

"At first it took me a lot longer," Appling said of making the 500 shots from long distance in workouts. "But once I started getting into a flow and getting used to it, I would come in and probably would be in just 30-45 minutes."

Tom Izzo encouraged Appling to improve his practice habits.

"I think Appling is a much, much, much better shooter, and I don't think that's because he couldn't shoot," Izzo said. "I think he went on a little bit of a slump last year, confidence, and as I told him, I didn't think he was working hard enough on his shooting. The only way I knew how to get out of something was to work my way out of it, and boy, did he take that to heart, because from April until this week, I think he's probably spent more time in the gym than he did his first two years.”

Jabari Parker Reveals Final Five Of BYU, Duke, Florida, Michigan State, Stanford

Oct 5, 2012 7:17 PM

Jabari Parker has reduced his list of college choices to BYU, Duke, Florida, Michigan State and Stanford.

Parker in July had revealed a list of 10 schools he was considering, which included DePaul, Georgetown, Kansas, Kentucky and North Carolina.

Parker is the top recruit of the 2013 class.

"He thought about it and looked at the programs. That's the five he had," Simeon coach Robert Smith said Friday. "It took him a long time to find. Everyone was really good, but he had to make a decision. He really respected everyone recruiting him and wanted to thank them for their time. He knew he couldn't make everyone happy.

"He's just ready to go out and visit the campuses and get a real feel for the players and the campuses. Him, his family and myself will sit down and see what he comes up with. This is Jabari's decision. We're just making sure he's being guided. I tell him to follow his heart."

James Young Plans Visit To Michigan State

Oct 2, 2012 9:33 AM

The godfather of James Young said they plan to make an unofficial visit to Michigan State “within a week.”

Young made his first visit to Kentucky over the weekend.

“Great visit, great visit,” Young’s godfather, Sean Mahone, said. “We were able to witness firsthand the quality of the facilities and the entirety of the program. It’s clear why they are so successful. All of the things we read about, all of the things they verbalized to us when they came to visit, the things that we’d seen on TV — we were able to see firsthand.”
